Apple Launched iPad to Less Than Favorable Reviews

Apple's iPad

The iPad

By Eric Claiborne

Steve Jobs presented the Apple iPad earlier today. It looks great of course with Apple’s signature sleek and glossy design and easy to use touch screen. However, it’s nothing more than a glorified iPod Touch with a few tweaks.

Some common things you can do with the iPad are to view your email, access Wi-Fi to download applications, type in a search on Google with the QWERTY keyboard, look at photos, listen to iTunes, plan your day on the improved calendar and surf the net with Safari. You can also create documents and spreadsheets, which you could not do on the iPod Touch of course. We hoped that with the large viewing area, suitable for reading eBooks downloaded from the iTunes store, you would have the ability to run multiple applications but that is not the case. The biggest disappointment is that it is not Flash capable either.

Most of the chatter on blogs and comments on columns that we’ve read is that people are not impressed with the iPad. The most impressive thing about it is its pricing for the 3 available versions.

  16 GB 32 GB 64 GB
Wi-Fi $499 $599 $699
Wi-Fi + 3G $629 $729 $829

As mentioned earlier the iPad is wireless and it includes Bluetooth technology and a battery that can last up to 10 hours. The product is bundled with a dock connector and snazzy case to carry it in. You will need a data package to operate the iPad which at the moment will be available on AT&T’s 3G network (monthly pre-paid plans will start at $14 for 250MB of data, or $29/month unlimited). Apple is currently taking orders for iPad but it looks like they are not taking into account the consumer’s need for a better product.
